Primary 3 Ukulele Programme

In Semester 2, our Primary 3 pupils participated in the Ukulele programme in which they learnt to strum the

basic ukulele chords. They also had opportunities to sing and play the musical instrument at the same time. Thus,

the pupils had fun making beautiful music with the ukulele and enjoyed themselves tremendously! At the end of

the programme, our Champions performed during Music Busking sessions to showcase their skills and talents.

Well done, Yumin Champions!

The pupils were attentive during lessons and they put in great effort in learning to play the Ukulele well.

Assembly Programme – One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes

On 13 February 2012, Morph Theatre presented the show ‘One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes’. This story is about a

girl who was despised by her family as she was different from them. Through this show, pupils learnt more about

compassion – to be caring towards their family as well as others.

The show reinforced one of our Yumin values – compassion.

Assembly Programme – Sandmation

Our Yumin Champions had the opportunity to showcase their creativity when Creative Bits taught them Sand Art

on 16 April 2012. Sandmation was indeed an enriching and fun session as the presenters showed many examples

of Sand Art pieces created by other people and demonstrated to pupils how it was done. The session ended with

several pupils creating a beautiful art piece as a team. Well done, Yumin Champions!

Pupils were amazed by the art pieces that could be created using sand.                             The art piece created by our Yumin Champions!

Primary 1 Learning Journey - ‘The Three Little Pigs’

The Primary 1 pupils had an enjoyable time at the DBS Arts Centre on 28 March 2012. Laughter filled the air as

they watched the ‘Three Little Pigs’. The show was lively with the performers singing and performing in their

colourful costumes. The children gave their fullest attention during the show which also taught them the values of

loving and caring for their family as well as persevering in difficult times.

The pupils could not wait for the show to start!                                                        The beautiful backdrop of the show.

Primary 1 to 3 Aesthetics Camp

The Aesthetics Camp was held on 24 May 2012. Pupils from Primary 1 to 3 were engaged in various activities that

enhance their musical and artistic talents. One interesting activity that was planned for the P1 pupils was ‘Kitchen

Stomp’, in which the pupils employed utensils and cutlery to make music!

The Primary 1 pupils enjoying ‘Kitchen Stomp’!

During recess, pupils were treated to a yummy McDonald’s meal.                                We are pretty sure the Primary 1                                                                                                                   pupils had a great experience=-).

While the P1 pupils were ‘stomping’ away, the P2 pupils had a taste of fusion dance and jiggled their little bodies

away to the fast tempo dances!

After much practising, the P2 pupils performed their gig as a class on the stage for their excited audience.

After their learning journey to the Dragon Kiln, the P3 pupils learnt how to beatbox and sing to contemporary

songs.

Talent Showcase

One of the performers - Soo Min from Primary 6A, performed tap dancing to the school during the assembly

programme. We were certainly wowed by her talents!

Music Busking

Music Busking has provided an opportunity for pupils to perform during recess time. Pupils have enjoyed

themselves and gained a real sense of achievement. During Semester 1, the P2 pupils have sung songs, whereas

some of the P4 pupils have played the recorders for their peers.

Art Department

In Yumin, we take on a developmental approach to our Art programme. Pupils acquire a new skill at each level so that at the end of their six years’ art education, they would have acquired a repertoire of art skills and are capable of an art discussion. Our unique Art programme entails art appreciation, art history, art making, and digital art. Pupils are trained to appreciate art, discover art, discuss art and create art.

Pupils have the opportunity to showcase their work around the school as part of our Yumin hallway gallery. In Yumin, our young art ambassadors use the art guide “Art Champion In Every Child” when they lead visitors on a tour around the school to view the works done by our budding artists.

Art Enrichment

Art enrichment courses were conducted for selected level of pupils. We aimed to introduce Yumin champions to a variety of media that would give them a chance for progressive development in art making.  The pupils’ artwork will eventually be showcased in our art gallery.

PAL

The Programme for Active Learning, or PAL, was introduced to strengthen the emphasis on non-academic programmes within the curriculum. Under PAL, Primary 1 and 2 students are exposed early to activities that further school efforts in developing character and life-skills. PAL is built into the curriculum, so that learning in a fun way is institutionalised.

Yumin Primary has introduced the Wearable Art module with two themes: Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat for the P2’s & The Emperor’s New Clothes for the P1’s. Students explored fashion design and making as a form of self-expression through clay making and collage. They were very excited when they created their very own wearable, in an Egyptian Style. Not only were our Yumin Champions stretched to think beyond boundaries as they planned and designed their ideas into different genres, they also enjoyed being designers and creating the clothes and accessories. PAL has definitely allowed our pupils‘imaginations to run wild and has in turn helped to build their self esteem.

  P1-P3 Aesthetics Camp

This exciting PAL journey ended with a bang on the 16th September 2010 during the Aesthetics camps for the P2’s. Pupils modelled the colourful dream coats and matching accessories as well as headgears created by each class down the runway. They were cheered on by their ecstatic classmates. It was indeed a celebration of pupils’ work by their peers as well as teachers alike. The cut-outs of emperors dressed in shimmering and snazzy outfits decked the stairs on Champions Day and received many praises too.

The highlight of this camp was Aesthetics- A beautiful symphony of music and art. Pupils started the day with painting. They picked a couple of skills on painting with different strokes as well as stamping by qualified individuals. Their beautiful works of art have been framed and put up on one of the many walls of our school.

Pupils next went to the Singapore Arts Museum and 8Q where they learned about the museum and its history. Pupils eagerly took down notes about the myriad of sculptures, paintings and art pieces displayed in the museum’s Learning Gallery.

The Learning Gallery is dedicated to presenting artworks from SAM’s collection for the young visitor. Besides nurturing an appreciation for art, the works are specially selected to encourage lively discussions and develop creative and analytical thinking among our young visitors.

Education programmes inspired by the artworks on display have also been specially developed for schools to offer students a multi-disciplinary and holistic contemporary art experience at the Learning Gallery. These programmes range from learning specific art techniques, to speech and drama puppet shows that encourages originality and the development of language skills and self-confidence

Lutfil, a pupil from P2F (2010) exclaimed, “I really enjoyed my trip to the Singapore Arts Museum, especially the Kids Corner! I would love to go there again!”

All in all, the Aesthetics Camp was a huge success !

P1 & P2 Aesthetics Camp-Cartooning

Pupils from P1 & P2 were in for a treat during their P1 and 2 Aesthetics Camp on Monday 23rd May 2011.

They got to try their hand at drawing animated/cartoonic expressions depicting 4 different emotions. They were taught how to draw the 4 basic expressions; anger, fear, happiness and surprise. Pupils really enjoyed this hands-on experience and were glad to show off their artistic skills. Terence from P2A learnt that you can draw many tiny capital letter Y’s in each eye to clearly depict fear in one’s drawings.

Children of Cambodia-Things That I Love

Ong Siwei of P3A was one of the

Top 5 finalists in the Children of Cambodia Art Competition with

her art piece.

Children of Cambodia is currently in

partnership with AHC as a base for our

cardiothoracic program - the only one

which offers free congenital heart repairs

for children in Cambodia. The cardiac

programme is run by a team of medical

professionals from Singapore, led by Senior

Consultant, Dr. Sriram Shankar. For the past

two years, Dr. Shankar’s team has been

providing free open-heart surgeries to

AHC’s patients, with a 99.75% success

rate.

Till date, over 400 children have

benefitted from the cardiac surgery at

AHC. This is in addition to the empowering

of local surgeons with the skill and

confidence to independently carry out

closed heart surgeries as of early 2010.

Encouraged by what the team has

achieved, we want to spread awareness

of the needs of the children and raise

sufficient funds to construct a

permanent center to host the cardiac

programme at AHC. The new center will

provide a permanent home for the cardiac

programme to continue extending this

essential service to provide children with

a new lease of life.
