Prefects’ Gathering

On 29th October 2011, the prefects gathered at Pasir Ris Park to enjoy some team-bonding activities. Organised and led by Prefects’ Executive Committee  (PEXCO), the event allowed the prefects to know more about their peers and work well with one another. It also gives the PEXCO a chance to develop further their leadership skills.

Head Prefect Election

This year, three pupils were in the running for the title of Head Prefect. They were Pua Wei Kiat (6A),  Chua Mei En (6B) and Jasmine Cheah (6B). The pupils and teachers took part in the voting process on 5th January 2012. After tallying the votes, Jasmine Cheah was elected to be the Head Prefect of 2012. Congratulations, Jasmine!

Community Involvement Programme (CIP) & Service Learning

CIP nurtures our students to become socially responsible and develops their sense of belonging and commitment to our country. Through participating in community work, students also learn the value of service and develop lasting friendships with one another.

Service Learning is an approach where CIP participants not only serve the community, but also learn to identify with the needs of the community and to reflect on their own experience in working with the community so that they have a better understanding and appreciation of what it involves.

P6 CIP

To develop the character of our Yumin Champion, the P6 pupils went on a CIP trip to Tanjung Pinang from 10 – 12 November 2011 to paint parts of the selected orphanages as well as interact with the children who stay at the orphanages. The P6 pupils also created ‘wish’ boxes for them which include personalized well-wishes and some origami pieces. The P2 pupils also contributed by saving a week of their pocket money to buy stationeries and donate them to the orphans. The pupils truly enjoyed their stay and felt more thankful for what they already have.

Junior Prefects’ Camp

61 P3 & P4 Junior Prefects had attended a half-day Student Leadership Camp conducted by Mr Daniel Chua during the last March holiday held on 14 Mar in the school premise. This is the first time that Pupil Development (PD) Department organized a student leadership training in-house conducted by our own dedicated staff. The P5 & P6 Senior Prefects will attend a separate camp organized by a vendor at the end of the year.

P6 Motivational Workshop

To help our Yumin champions to be better prepared for their upcoming PSLE, a Motivational Workshop was organized and conducted from 14th March to 16th March 2011. From the workshop, pupils learnt how they can attain higher self-confidence and self-esteem, skills to manage their time wisely, what they can do to achieve and maintain peak performance as well as pick up useful study skills.

Project Friendship (Bully-Free Camp)

8 Student Leaders had attended the Project FRIENDSHIP (Bully-Free) Camp organized by Singapore Children's Society held at Northbrooks Secondary School from 16th – 18th March 2011. The camp aims to train students from different primary schools to become effective FRIENDSHIP Ambassadors, who will organize a FRIENDSHIP Week Campaign in their respective schools thereafter. On 11 - 14 April 2011, the Friendship Ambassadors led by Ms Suhaila, the school counsellor, had organized a Friendship (Bully-Free) Campaign in conjunction with International Friendship Day. This is the first time that our school gets involved in such an event.

Sailsmart Camp

5 P4 Student Leaders had attended the Sailsmart Programme for Student Leaders organized by E3 Cluster Schools in collaboration with National Sailing Centre and CreativeKids. It was held on 28 – 30 April 2011. The camp aims to further develop/enhance leadership qualities in student leaders using a sailing programme and to learn principles and science of sailing, environmental issues related to the coast and safety.

Values Education

Our Values Education is decentralized and run by the class Form Teachers and Co-Form Teachers. In the aspect of developing the child's character, CME is aligned with the PC's focus of values termly – Term 1: Respect, Term 2: Compassion, Term 3: Integrity, Term 4: Perseverance. This is to provide explicit teaching of values and developing of character and citizenship to prepare the child for future. Also, to recognize pupils who possess the values, teachers will select pupils, termly, from each class as model pupils for the different values.

This year, pupils were tasked to design the School values as a badge. The P3 pupils were tasked with designing of 'Respect', P4 with designing of 'Compassion', P5 with designing of 'Integrity' and P6 with designing of 'Perseverance'. The selected designs will be sent for production and will be worn by our termly selected Values Champions!'

SEL Programme

In 2011, the school has allocated one period for Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP) for P1 to P6 pupils. The additional one period per week allows closer teacher-student interaction and pupils get to have a better understanding of their emotions and needs through class and group discussions. Teacher-Pupil Conference (TPC) is also in place for teachers to get to know each pupil’s social and emotional needs so as to cater to their individual holistic development.

Pupil Suggestion Scheme

To enhance the learning environment for pupils, focused group discussions, which are conducted termly, and feedback booths are in place to serve as platforms for pupils to voice their opinions, problems as well as appreciations towards their teachers and peers.
